North Entrance to Falls Park

North Entrance to Falls Park

(Sep 29 2009, cont.) After leaving the Huntsville-Williams cemetery I circled around to approach Pendleton and Falls Creek from the north. Falls Park was where I expected to find a historical marker where the Falls Creek murderers had been hanged. I saw from this sign that I wasn’t the only one likely to have come [...]

Huntsville - Williams Cemetery

Huntsville – Williams Cemetery

(Sep 29, 2009,cont.) This cemetery is two miles west of the William Williams homestead. Williams is buried on the knoll in the foreground of this photo, judging from a photo taken from the other direction that you can see on an excellent web site about Madison County cemeteries that I just now discovered. But I [...]

Quakers on Fall Creek

Quakers on Fall Creek

(Sep 29, 2009) On the previous two days I had ridden to the northeast and then to the east. This time the wind was almost in my favor for a ride to the south, to my main destination for the three-day outing. This time I was headed towards Fall Creek and to sites of the [...]

1795 Greenville Treaty Line in Randolph County

1795 Greenville Treaty Line in Randolph County

(Sep 28, cont) The road east comes to a T intersection here because it runs into the Greenville Treaty line. The surveys on the two sides of the line don’t match up, with the result that the east-west roads don’t go straight through.

Carlos

Carlos

Carlos is only a mile west of the previous stop at the driveway to the Catey farm. I wrote about the Carlos grain elevator in the evening after returning from my September 28 ride. Here are a few more photos of the place, starting with the main intersection where I spied the grain elevator out [...]

Whitewater River

Whitewater River

A couple of miles west of the 1809 treaty line, the road curved around the side of a little creek and then resumed a straight line to the west, a half mile north of the previous line I had been riding on. It isn’t much of a photo. I do remember the stop, which I [...]
