Standard Oil station on the north end of Algansee, Branch County, MI

This weekend I did an overnight ride to Branch County.   There was a wind from the northeast both days, and temperatures were cool, so I wimped out and stayed in a cheap motel instead of camping.

I tried to explain to the woman who runs the motel that I was planning a few stops in Algansee Township.   She had never heard of it, even though it’s only a few miles from her motel in Coldwater, though maybe it’s because she never heard it pronounced the way I said it.

In any case, today I decided to ride through the village of Algansee itself.   I have ridden through once or twice before, but the last time would have been in 2000.

I did not remember the Standard Oil station at the north end of town from my previous ride(s).  But I’ll bet it was here back then.

Hitching post for Amish buggies in Algansee's business districtI did remember the general store.  It had seemed to be a place that catered to the local Amish population.  Maybe it still does, judging by the hitching post.

Algansee's main business district, including the libraryI had not remembered the library from my previous rides.  Maybe it’s new.   It’s a branch of the Branch County library system.

Church at the sound end of AlganseeThe church on the south end of town probably didn’t have good attendance this morning.

YTD mileage 507.  (101 miles this weekend)

My routes for the two days are shown here.

  One Response to “Algansee”

  1. Love the design of the church’s bell tower
