This weekend I did an overnight ride to Branch County. There was a wind from the northeast both days, and temperatures were cool, so I wimped out and stayed in a cheap motel instead of camping.
I tried to explain to the woman who runs the motel that I was planning a few stops in Algansee Township. She had never heard of it, even though it’s only a few miles from her motel in Coldwater, though maybe it’s because she never heard it pronounced the way I said it.
In any case, today I decided to ride through the village of Algansee itself. I have ridden through once or twice before, but the last time would have been in 2000.
I did not remember the Standard Oil station at the north end of town from my previous ride(s). But I’ll bet it was here back then.
I did remember the general store. It had seemed to be a place that catered to the local Amish population. Maybe it still does, judging by the hitching post.
I had not remembered the library from my previous rides. Maybe it’s new. It’s a branch of the Branch County library system.
The church on the south end of town probably didn’t have good attendance this morning.
YTD mileage 507. (101 miles this weekend)
My routes for the two days are shown here.

Love the design of the church’s bell tower
