Carlos is only a mile west of the previous stop at the driveway to the Catey farm. I wrote about the Carlos grain elevator in the evening after returning from my September 28 ride. Here are a few more photos of the place, starting with the main intersection where I spied the grain elevator out of town, to the south. (Yes, it’s big enough to have more than one intersection.)

Here is another view of the grain elevator.

Back to the main intersection, where I continued my ride west. It had been a breezy day when I started. Now the wind was starting to move me along at a good clip, except for all of these stops.

  1. Great pics of the little town of Carlos, Indiana. I have some great memories of when we lived there. I always wondered what the other buildings (businesses) were, originally. The last time I was there (been so many years ago) the large white building on the left was the Doll House Museum…we used to love visiting! The building across the street was Bill’s store….I remember when my grandmother would take us there and we’d get fresh bologna and cheese. I remember the floors squeaking as you walked on them….and hearing the screen door slam as each person came and went…..so many great memories!

Thank you so much for sharing these pictures – they mean a lot!!!

  2. Teresa, Thanks for telling about your memories of those scenes. Knowing about those things makes the place more meaningful for me, too! -John

  3. I grew up all my life in Carlos, I remember the doll hospital, taking bottles to cash in at Tommy’s Place, buying butter from the creamery, the general store with the post office in the back of it, getting peanuts at the elevator, I remember going in the old school after it was abandoned but the best memories of all were all the good people that lived there.
