This is a good photo for a time such as now when I’m too busy getting ready for another bike outing to post much. I presume I don’t need to explain where it was taken.
I’ve often wondered, though, how Black Hawk and his large entourage would get across to the other side and/or over to Drummond Island when the British place for disbursement of presents was over there. I presume that they came this far from the Rock River by foot, and then hitched a canoe ride with the Ojibwe people who lived in the area. But I wish I knew more of how that worked. Did it help that the Sauk and Ojibwe had a relationship that went back at least to 1763 when they played a game of lacrosse as a ruse for entering and capturing the fort that was here?
