Sometimes bicycle tourers on the Phred e-mail list will ask about routes, say, between Chicago and Philadelphia. When they do, I think about roads like this one, which lies just south of I-80 in northwestern Ohio. It’s east of Metz, Indiana. This was a pleasant place to ride in September 2003. It gave a very different impression of the country than does driving on I-80, which is a mile or so away. But most riders want to know about complete routes, not little segments here and there. I’ve learned that the kind of information I can provide isn’t what they’re looking for.
Still, these are nice places to ride. I like to keep track of them for future reference for myself, anyway.
(This is an example, though, where it would be nice to have a GPS to record the location of all of my photos. I don’t know exactly where this photo was taken.)
