This road is just a few miles from where I work. I took a few hours off from work to go riding late last October, and wanted to ride on a least one road I had never been on before. This one fit that criterion. Before riding there I hadn’t know that there were any roads so near that were that rural.
I was reminded of it by this web site (Fixing Frederick) that I just found out about. It isn’t about touring, but I like it for several reasons:
- The rider’s name is alphabetically very close to mine
- The web is about places
- The rider posts photos of roads and old buildings along them.
- He has a plan to guide his riding, but doesn’t follow it stupidly
- It’s about a part of the country (Frederick County, MD) where I’ve been talking about going riding sometime — maybe combined with a trip to the National Archives to do some research in the land office records.
Here’s how he describes what he’s doing:
The Idea
“Ride my fixed gear bicycle on every road which it is legal to ride in Frederick County, Maryland.”
This is more about fun than self imposed rules. I intend to try to ride the roads, but I’m going to focus on those roads which go someplace.

Hi John, Thanks for the nice comments about my site! If you do make it out to this area, you really do need to bring a bike. There is some good riding, even closer in to DC and Baltimore. Cheers!
