Augusta Creek wetlands

This is part of my commuting route from work. Well, not really. It’s not the usual route I’ve been using the last 17 years. It’s an alternate that adds less than a mile to the distance. I took it tonight for maybe the 3rd time this year, and stopped for this photo, too.

I seldom use it, because a) I like to get home as quickly as possible, and b) there are a couple of half-mile stretches of gravel. This stretch in the photo is gravel, but is not bad. I don’t know that I’ve ever encountered a car on it, nor have I ever found it in a state with washboards and/or too much loose gravel.

The other gravel stretch is not as pleasant. Today I had to make way for 3 cars and their dust, which is not so easy because much of the road is loose gravel, and that on a downhill. But once I get past that half mile, the rest of the ride home is very nice.

I may use this route more often in the future, at least when the weather is good. There are new housing developments along my usual route that make the road noticeably busier than it used to be. But tonight I noticed a sign along this alternate route that suggests a housing development going in there, too.
